03 Oct The Aggressive New Honda Civic Type R
Honda just unveiled the new Civic Type R at the Paris Motor Show. This new car, with it’s very aggressive looks, aims squarely at cars like the Subaru WRX STi and the new Ford Focus RS. Although currently being shown only in this prototype form, Honda plans to have another big event at the SEMA show in Las Vegas in November for a stateside unveiling. Interestingly enough, this will be the first Civic to be sold in America with the Type R badge. The Type R joins the rest of the tenth generation Civic lineup for 2017.
The Type R makes quite an entrance with features like carbon fiber side skirts, a rear splitter, 20-inch piano black wheels and red exterior accents. I, for one, am excited to see this car being offered in the United States. I think many Honda customers are missing the S2000 as a high performance Honda that, believe it or not, hasn’t been sold since 2009. Having a competitor in this segment, I think, makes perfect sense. There is clearly an appetite for these types of sports cars given the success Ford had recently with the Focus RS. Hot hatchbacks have been a “thing” in Europe for quite some time now. Given their awesome looks, killer performance and, let’s be honest, their practicality — this car makes sense in the current marketplace. Now I just need to get my hands on one for an upcoming episode of the show.
