17 Jan Ford Unveils the New 2018 Mustang
Ford has just given us a glimpse of what the new 2018 Ford Mustang will look like as well as the list of advanced features they will soon be adding. These changes include everything from better engine performance, a new customizable digital instrument cluster, new exterior design elements and three new exterior colors.
Let’s start with the dashboard screen. This will be Ford’s first 12-inch digital LCD screen dashboard that is highly customizable by the owner. Three separate views (normal, sport, and track) are among the selections, but you can also personalize the display with Mustang MyMode memory functions. A few driver’s safety technology options are being added, as well. Those include Pre-Collision Assist with pedestrian detection, distance alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and Driver Alert System.
Now let’s talk performance – the hallmark of any Mustang. All models will now feature new shock absorbers for better ride control. MagneRide damper technology will be optional as part of the Mustang Performance Package. This feature will allow the driver to optimize the ride and handling abilities in all situations. The 5.0 liter V8 engine has been reworked to rev higher and provide better performance than the outgoing model.
The exterior design features a lower and remodeled hood and grill, a new position for hood vents and, for the first time ever on Mustang, LED headlamps are available as an option. As for the new colors, the first hue we get to see is “Orange Fury,” which you may have noticed in the photo at the top of this article.
I have to say, this new Mustang continues to impress me. They haven’t strayed to far from the retro design, which is part of the reason I think Mustang is seeing such success. The car looks great with just a few minor tweaks for 2018.
I’m excited by everything American companies are doing to one-up each other in the muscle car category. Competition really does make everyone better. These new cars continue to improve. They have good looks, more power, more tech and better gas mileage than ever before. The Camaro, the Challenger and the Mustang each have their own special way of evoking feelings of excitement and desire. No matter which one you like the most, this new Mustang is definitely worth a thoughtful look.
