05 Dec The Lamborghini Urus has Arrived
We’ve been hearing about Lamborghini’s return to the SUV world since the Urus concept debuted about 5 years ago. Well, today is the day. The company unveiled the production version of the SUV and it is stunning. I was a big fan of the concept car and I’m glad they’ve stuck with the very angular and sporty lines for the production version.
Many people thought it would share the V10 of the Huracan or the V12 of the Aventador, but in fact it will feature a 4 liter twin-turbo V8 that will produce 650 hp and a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds. This puts it among the quickest SUVs on the market. The top speed is 189 mph. In true Lamborghini fashion the interior manages to be both sporty, luxurious and a little outrageous at the same time. A wide range of colors and options are available to customize the Urus to your own personal style.
Lamborghini is touting the 4WD system and air suspension as a car that really is as capable off-road as well as on road. Now I don’t know very many G-Wagen or Range Rover owners that take their cars off-road, so I highly doubt the Urus will see any dirt. But it’s nice to know it is possible since it is an SUV. I personally would think winter driving would be a ton of fun.
The Urus will have a starting price right around $200,000 which is a lot, but consider the following in the world of top market SUVs. For starters the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S will do 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and it’s base price is $161,600. With some options it can hit the $200,000 mark. Next, the Tesla Model X P100D starts at $140,000 and does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. With some options it can hit $160,000. Then we have the Bentley Bentayga which is basically the same price as the Lamborghini and can do 0-60 in 3.6 seconds as well. So, market wise it makes a nice case for itself. Plus, it’s a Lamborghini with 4 seats which in and of itself is exciting. I was a big fan of Lamborghini’s first SUV, the LM002, and I have to say I love this new one. It has the looks and performance to really make it something special. Isn’t that what a Lamborghini should be?
